Central Air Conditioning Cycling

Why? Summer bill credits of up to $10/month are available for ComEd customers with a central air conditioning unit.

How it works: ComEd will install a remote-controlled switch on your air conditioner's compressor motor. During certain conditions during the summer, ComEd will send a wireless signal to the switch and cycle your compressor off and on to safely use less power on the hottest days of the summer. Your system's fan may stay on to circulate the cooled air to keep your home comfortable. Cycling may occur only on weekdays and for limited periods of time. You choose the cycling option best suited for you:

  • The 50% option
    Cycling Times: Weekdays (excluding holidays) between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
    Cycling Timing: 15 minute maximum every half hour, if needed.
    Cycling Incentive: $5 credit per household (June 1-September 30); a possible $20 credit total.
  • 100% option (Not recommended if someone is home most of the day or has a medical condition.
    Cycling Times: Weekdays (excluding holidays) between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
    Cycling Timing: One continuous three-hour period during any weekday, if needed.
    Cycling Incentive: $10 credit per household (June 1-September 30); a possible $40 credit total.
